The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) has released proposed updates to the transportation project environmental review process to further reduce or eliminate costly and time-consuming delays to construction projects.
The Nov. 20 proposal conforms agency regulations to the Trump administration’s modernization of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), announced earlier this year, as well as changes to the review process made in recent surface transportation reauthorization bills.
ARTBA has consistently supported NEPA modernization through regulatory and legislative advocacy and is currently defending the administration’s reforms in federal court. ARTBA is reviewing the latest U.S. DOT proposal, which is open for comment through Dec. 23.
