The U.S. Department of Transportation Feb. 19 announced a notice of funding opportunity for the next round of Better Utilizing Infrastructure to Leverage Development (BUILD) grants. BUILD grants support the planning and construction of roads, bridges, transit, rail, ports or intermodal transportation projects.

A series of informational webinars about the application process begins Feb. 25. The other dates are Feb. 27, March 4, and March 10.

The agency plans to award 50 percent of the grants to projects in rural areas, and no more than $100 million will be awarded to one state. Applications will be evaluated on criteria including safety, economic competitiveness, quality of life, environmental sustainability, state of good repair, innovation, and partnership.

The deadline to submit applications is May 18.
