ARTBA’s Online Learning Center (OLC) provides many opportunities for transportation design, construction, and safety professionals to meet year-end Professional Development Hour (PDHs) requirements for their operating licenses and other credentials. Forward-looking professionals also can tap the OLC to prepare for upcoming changes, such as integrating new technology or equipment; following new policies and procedures; or adapting to new federal and state mandates.
The OLC provides a variety of courses covering topics from traffic control and work site set-up to communications and building safety plans. Self-paced courses are available seven days a week, day and night.
In 2019, nearly 1,800 PDHs were granted through the OLC. As of Dec. 9, more than 452 users were actively enrolled on the system.
The majority of PDHs are earned from ARTBA’s eight course offerings. The National Asphalt Pavement Association, Federal Highway Administration, and Texas Department of Transportation also provide courses through the OLC, though not all are eligible for PDH credit.
The PDHs associated with these courses are pre-approved to meet licensing requirements for civil engineers in Florida, North Carolina, and New York. They are accepted in the 38 other states that follow the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Model Rules for continual professional competency.
The courses can help prep individuals for the Safety Certification for Transportation Project Professionals™ exam, or for the recertification process for the nearly 500 individuals who have already obtained the credential. A practice exam is also available on the OLC.
