Former ARTBA President Pete Ruane has been been named the International Road Federation’s (IRF) “Man of the Year.” He will be honored Nov. 22 at the IRF Global R2T Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas, the group announced in an Oct. 30 news release.

Established in 1951, the award recognizes “eminent public, private and education sector professionals with an outstanding track record of leadership and commitment to the road transport industry.”

Ruane served on IRF’s board and executive committee for nearly three decades.

“IRF provided me with a worldwide perspective and insights into successful national road programs that was uniquely valuable to my ARTBA service,” Ruane said in the release. “I will always treasure the friendship, camaraderie and lessons learned from IRF’s world leaders in the road sector.”

IRF Chairman Abdullah A. Al-Mogbel said Ruane provided “exceptional energy and insights” to the global organization. IRF President & CEO C. Patrick Sankey added ,“the industry he served tirelessly will miss his leadership and vision.”
