The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has redistributed nearly $4 billion in unused fiscal 2019 funds to the transportation departments of all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The $3.97 billion in highway obligation authority is derived from unused discretionary funding programs administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation that would otherwise be in jeopardy of being unobligated by the end of the fiscal year – the deadline for appropriations dollars to be expended. This reallocation of funds is an annual process known as the “August Redistribution”.

Texas received more than $497.7 million, the largest redistribution. California was second at $330.5 million. Ten other states received at least $100 million. See the full distribution list.
