ARTBA Industry Leader Development Council (ILDC) Vice Chair Sofia Berger, senior vice president at Louis Berger, a WSP company, is among Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine’s top 20 construction industry professionals under 40 years old. Berger also serves as a director on ARTBA’s board.

ENR says the 20 executives “are impatient CEOs and ambitious company problem-solvers, but also generous mentors, deep-thinking visionaries and committed social activist—with just the right mix of talent, experience, foresight, drive and empathy to tackle’s construction’s persistent challenges and help lead it into a new era of technology transformation and growth.”

Berger tells ENR that the U.S. construction industry should help boost the “prestige” profile of engineers. “Workers need to want to come to us instead of Silicon Valley and that’s really a struggle,” she says in a profile section about project deliver alternatives.

Berger is a 2017 graduate of the ARTBA Foundation’s Industry Leader Development Program (ILDP).  Now, as ILDC vice chair, she’s playing a key role engaging and developing the next generation of ARTBA leaders.

“The explanations on funding streams for infrastructure have been of regular importance in my day to day business, especially in understanding the current news and how proposed changes in funding would affect future infrastructure projects,” Berger said of her ILDP experience in a 2018 Newsline interview. “If anyone is transiting in their organization and find themselves taking on larger roles, this program will help them get ready for it.”
