The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released regulations aimed at improving the project delivery process and updating design standards for highways.

On Oct. 29, the agency issued a final rule expanding the use of categorical exclusions (CEs) for all U.S. Department of Transportation’s modal agencies, and updating regulations pertaining to wildlife areas and historic sites. ARTBA began urging the changes last year.

On Nov. 1, FHWA issued a final rule updating regulations governing highway project design standards “that apply to new construction, reconstruction (except for maintenance resurfacing), restoration and rehabilitation.”

ARTBA continuously monitors and comments on a variety of regulatory activity directly impacting the transportation construction industry.
