The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) says planned freeway lane closures this summer across the state will lead to major traffic jams.

To “ease the pain of getting stuck in traffic,” the agency is promoting its own “Gridlock Grooves” downloadable song playlist. Drivers must have a Spotify digital music service account to access the 23-song list, which includes “Road to Nowhere” from the Talking Heads, Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time,” Bob Marley’s “Waiting in Vain,” “Time” from Hootie and the Blowfish, and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time.”

For the safety of highway workers and fellow travelers, ODOT encourages drivers to cue up the playlist before entering the highway. Distracted driving can cause crashes and result in hefty fines.

The agency has also established an interactive summer construction project map at Motorists can sign up for construction alerts, find travel options, and learn about ongoing road work without having to sing along to the playlist. Learn more at
