Tampa Bay Begins $1.5 Billion Building Boom
More than $1.5 billion of expanded roadway capacity and bridge work is coming to the west central Florida region in the coming decade, according to a Tampa Bay Times’ roundup. Just under half the investment is for an 8-lane, Interstate 275 bridge over Tampa Bay between the cities of Tampa and St. Petersburg, targeted to open in 2024. A 1.6-mile elevated toll road over an existing expressway is budgeted for $236 million, among other projects.
Salt Lake City Airport Taking Shape
The $3.6 billion reconstruction at Salt Lake City International Airport is within two years of completion and now “looks like a city emerging from the high plains along Utah’s Wasatch Mountains,” the New York Times reported. The work includes a 908,000-square-foot main terminal; 1.7 million-square-foot parking deck; 827,000-square-foot and 477,00-square-foot concourses; 990-foot-long connecting tunnel; and 14 miles of new roadway. A new station for the existing light-rail line is also being added.
