The Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Sept. 14 announced priorities for implementing President Donald Trump’s directive to streamline the federal environmental review and authorization process for infrastructure projects, including transportation construction.

The initial list of actions includes a number of ARTBA priorities, such as further examination and expansion of the use of categorical exclusion process, use of prior planning documents in the review process and greater authority for lead agencies.

CEQ also announced it will publish a framework for implementing the president’s “One Federal Decision” concept, which aims to reduce multiple agencies from having conflicting review schedules. ARTBA will work closely with CEQ as it moves towards the president’s goal.
