House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) and Ways & Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) introduced Sept. 25 legislation, “The Airport and Airway Extension Act of 2015,” H.R. 3614, to extend the federal aviation programs and funding through March 31, 2016.  The measure is needed to avoid a disruption in these activities once the four-year aviation law enacted in 2012 expires on Sept. 30.

Neither the House T&I Committee nor the Senate Commerce Committee has yet acted on an aviation reauthorization proposal.  ARTBA is continuing to urge members of both committees to ensure upgrading airport infrastructure is a key priority in any long-term aviation legislation.

The House is scheduled to act on H.R. 3614 Sept. 28.  Following the measure’s expected approval, it will be sent to the Senate.
