The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Oct. 6 hosts the second session of its free webinar series to support deployment of EDC-3 3D Engineered Models: Schedule, Cost, and Post-Construction. During this and five additional sessions, subject matter experts will share notable practices and lessons learned in their own implementation of the 3D modeling technology.

The webinar will focus on how using field survey tools and 3D data can save inspectors time, provide comprehensive digital records that aid transparency, and improve safety. Experts will describe workflows for collecting, reviewing, and processing 3D data for measurement and acceptance. Participants will learn about recent and soon-to-be released resources and tools to support implementing real-time verification methods with 3D data. Owner acceptance and independent measurement of pay items also will be explained.

The Sept. 1 opening webinar introduced the new focus areas and provided national and state-based perspective of how the technology can impact the highway industry. Future sessions are scheduled for Nov. 10, Jan. 5, 2016, Feb. 9, 2016, March 22, 2016 and April 26, 2016. All sessions are from 1:30 to 3 p.m. EST.

The series is open to anyone with a role in planning, designing, constructing, maintaining, or managing highway assets. Prior experience with 3D models is not necessary. Participants will share their perspectives through frequent polls and a moderated panel Q&A.
