The Tennessee Infrastructure Alliance (TIA) March 10 released a new report showing that an additional $460 million state investment in highway and bridge construction annually would support or create more than 10,282 new jobs and boost economic activity by $1.2 billion. The report includes detailed analysis for Tennessee’s 23 rural and metropolitan planning areas.
ARTBA’s Chief Economist Dr. Alison Premo Black, who authored the study, gave testimony on March 10 & 11 before the Tennessee House Transportation Committee, the Senate Transportation & Safety Committee and the House Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee about the report’s key findings.
This investment would come at just the right time for the state, according to TIA Executive Director Susie Alcorn. “Tennessee is at a crossroads in terms of increasing funding for its transportation fund.” TIA is currently encouraging state officials to explore options to increase funding levels.
