Private sector organizations from across the nation were recognized for their outstanding commitment to promoting jobsite safety during yesterday’s “Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Awards” sponsored by the ARTBA Foundation. The awards were presented during a special luncheon held in conjunction with the association’s 2014 National Convention taking place this week in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
Now in its 16th year, the competition recognizes outstanding programs, campaigns and technologies in three categories.
In the “Outreach Campaigns” category, which honors efforts to promote roadway work zone safety through employee and/or public education campaigns, there were three winners: DBi Services, LLC for their “Billboard and Student Driver Outreach” campaign in Florida and Virginia; Granite Construction Company & Dannenbaum Engineering Corporation for safety programs implemented on the “Chisholm Trail Parkway Section 6 Design-Build” in Texas; and Transurban-Fluor, AAA Mid-Atlantic, and 95 Express Lanes for their “Orange Cones. No Phones” campaign along the Capital Beltway in Northern Virginia.
In the “Training Programs” category, which acknowledges employee-based programs that promote jobsite safety, the award went to Oldcastle Materials Inc. for their “Best Practices for Mitigating Effects of Work Zone Intrusions Guide & Training Program.”
In the “Innovations in Technology” category, which recognizes the important role that technology plays in improving safety in and around work zones, the winners were ILLUMAGEAR, Inc. for “The Halo Light™” and Royal Truck & Equipment for their “Mobile Safety System and TMA Trucks.”
