Although Congress temporarily stabilized the Highway Trust Fund (HTF), federal highway and public transportation investment will again be threatened next spring. The past five trust fund patches have demonstrated that if Congress puts off dealing with this situation until the eve of the next crisis, another short-term band aid will be the likely result. As such, ARTBA is continuing to urge Congress to use the remainder of 2014 to permanently stabilize the HTF. Members of the House and Senate will be at home for the next four weeks and this is a perfect opportunity to engage them about the need for a long-term trust fund solution and how continued uncertainty over federal highway and transit investment is adversely impacting your state.
